Derby Re-Designed: In my senior final project, I tested my drawing capabilities by sketching a book full of fashion designs. As I progressed, I worked to bring one of the designs to life by learning how to sew a whole new outfit and how to create accessories. When it came to capturing this project, I revisited the photography skills that I had learned in previous years. I wanted to put my own imagination and my perspective of today’s fashion on display, while also incorporating vibrant colors with a fun twist. My inspiration for this outfit came from Derby race clothing. Watching one of my favorite series, Gossip Girl, I always admired their fashion. This was the first time i was exposed to Derby horse races and all the glamorous outfits that went along with it. As I made the decision to style my piece after this sort of event, I found that many of the pieces I saw were outdated and could be used from a younger perspective. One difficulty I found when it came to the construction process was the execution, but with the help of my mother it made it all worthwhile. I sought to inject a more contemporary feel into my take on this classic style. This project truly describes me as a person as I like to discover new capabilities, test my limits, and have fun with the clothing I wear.
