“ I want the viewer to notice the carefully chosen materials and how they tie the piece together.”

CAN YOU TELL IT’s 3D?

My goal on this was to put my photos in a more 3D perspective to draw people in and make them look more in depth at the carefully chosen materials that alter the image. I want the viewer to notice the carefully chosen materials and how they tie the piece together. I wanted to branch out and work with different materials. Focusing on lettering and signage was my way to find inspiration for selecting new materials. One challenge I faced was figuring out how to manipulate the different materials used. For example, I experimented with different types of glue and what works for each material along with how to cut things like leather to be clean and fit in with the photo. Signs were my choice because I feel as though there are endless aspects to make words, phrases, or images stick out and become the focal point of each piece. The manipulation of the sign is deliberate for what I want people to be most focused on. My string photo of the parasail has a central focal point where all the strings go together and with the natural instinct of the eye I want people to slowly take in the full image and notice the intricate detail. - Kirsten S.
