Burning Light

The photos in this series are made by using long exposure, movement, and a variety of different light sources such as string lights, overhead lights, aquarium light, and my phone. The light sources are used to portray different everyday things. For example, I used string lights in the skillet to portray fire. I created this work because I enjoyed learning about long exposure photography, and I liked being able to portray movement in a still photograph. Some challenges I faced while working on this project were having the images be too blurry, over exposed, under exposed, and the time frame that I was able to work on made it difficult because I could only take the photos when it was dark. The locations that I choose were because it made the most sense with the images taken. For example, I took the photos of the pan in the kitchen on the stove, and the photos of the sink were in the bathroom. The mood of the photos is dark and surreal, but not scary. The surreal aspect are the lights that are in place of different things, like fire and water. - Ava P.
