“I am aware that drawing faces, capturing likeness, can be difficult for a lot people, so I always strive to get better at it, in an effort to feel ‘special’, and consequently making the person I am drawing feel special too.”
The central idea for my capstone is portraiture. I do not like drawing scenery or still life or nature. People, specifically people I know, are what I draw best. I think a lot of it has to do with my own hubris; I am aware that drawing faces, capturing likeness, can be difficult for a lot people, so I always strive to get better at it, in an effort to feel ‘special’, and consequently making the person I am drawing feel special too. I draw people who I love and who are close to me, mainly because I love them and I’d like to preserve their energy on a page; but also because they are some of the few people I don’t feel embarrassed about asking to draw.
