Over the last four years, 3D art and sculpture truly have become a defining factor in my life. The time spent in Mr. Cassie’s classes have awakened a passion in me that I believe in is unmatched in many of my other subjects. I looked forward to every class, as I spent my day pondering my current pieces and what lied ahead. I have to say I am sad to have lost the last quarter of this year and with it, the finishing pieces to this collection of useable items; however, I believe this loss of time leaves me wanting more and will inspire me to continue to explore sculpture on my own time.

Vessel of Life (Circular Water Vessel), glazed ceramic

This collection has been especially important for me to craft, as I knew it would be my last chance to create something special at Saint Mary’s Hall. For these reasons, I chose to angle this portfolio towards useable items that I can hopefully use for the rest of my life as a way to remember my time and experiences at Saint Mary’s Hall. I believe there is a special interaction between the observer and the art when the art can be touched and used as a part of everyday life. It brings a feeling of extravagance to every day, and I believe there is something fulfilling in using items that I personally crafted with my own hands.

Trees (Tree-Shaped Cups), glazed ceramic

As I explored my ideas about creating useable objects, I landed on the idea of developing a full table set, including salt and pepper shakers, candle holders, bowls, trays, cups, and a centerpiece. Although I intended to make plates, place settings, and silverware trays, my time was cut short, and I look forward to crafting those pieces in the future. Throughout this collection, I focused on natural influences and simple shapes, as I sought to incorporate natural mediums like stone, clay, metal, and wood into elemental motifs such as fire, rain, and trees. Although each individual piece may seem small or simple, I believe they create something entirely fascinating when united with each other on a single table.
